He’s 90 this year 💙 he pulls off ‘The One Hundred’ better than some of my 30 year olds… 

Controversial  I know but who am I to stop him at play?  I of course guide why loaded flexion might not be the best at this stage 🫣

He’s been with me for around 10 years. 

As well as a rich career in the #raf, he was head of the #clematis society and appeared on @bbcgwlive a couple of years back as he has more variations of clematis than anyone on the country…

He lightens up the room in many ways and shares himself and his knowledge with us. Today  it was with a pose of early flowing clematis 💐🥀

I gain as much from my clients as they gain from me ❤️💙 thank you Mike!

    The sports based class in action! They are a mix o The sports based class in action! They are a mix of #runners, #cyclists and #hockey players. 

We spend each term focusing on different elements of their fave sports… rehab, prehab, off setting, Hiit sessions and working them in the positions,  they spend long periods of time in. 

Always with a focus on #extension. Which from a runners perspective is where they gain their power and drive from.

We spent half of this session lengthening out fascia, charging it up with some fascia recoil work (bouncing off walls!!) and then practised varying running drills to feel the propulsion from the kinetic energy stored in the fascia.

Some of them were bounding like kangaroos! 

Hip extension is a key element to being able to run efficiently whilst looking after your lower back… we spend a lot of time with #pilates exercises opening out the hips.

If the hips don’t extend…. The lower back will for every stride you take… OUCH!! 

We also worked on #ankling but that’s another post!

Mine is on order … 🥰 it’s a book I longed to have had maybe 10 years ago.

It’s amazing that our society has finally opened up against the stigma and can speak openly about these life changing conditions and therefore gain the evolving support that we need. 

POI and early menopause effects 1 in 100 of us below the age of 40 and 0.1% below the age of 30.

It’s a wildly confusing and life changing diagnosis, along with a whole host of life changing symptoms.

It’s also not as straight forward of ‘just being on HRT’ which is essential for cardio and bone health  but it’s finding the correct one that can add to the journey. 

I’m very lucky to be where I am (at this stage ) and in the profession I have with my diagnosis… 

#Pilates has supported both my mental and physical well being through out ❤️ I couldn’t imagine surviving in any other profession. The ability to adapt to life circumstances that Pilates provides and assist with, is unlike most other forms of #exercise. Although I’ve lost in some areas in life, I’ve truly gained in others and I’m very #grateful. 

I’ve had the joy of hosting a webinar with Dr Hannah Short… which some of you will have attended …  To have these amazing specialists who’ve been through their own experiences, help support others is in invaluable.

Here is my take on Pass the Pilates ball and some of my fave things to do with it.

Post cycling to help restore #posture after flexing over for hours and to help get my lungs and rib cage moving well again. 

1. Place the ball under thoracic spine, around the bra line area and extend over it. 
Be creative with arm movements to stretch out tight pecs and to get the lateral rotators as of the shoulder open.

#breath low and into the ribs so #diaphragm fully descends. 

2. Place ball under the side of ribs (not lowest rib) and NOSE BREATH into the ball LIGHT LONG AND SLOW. The ribs on the ball will open up more as will the ribs facing the ceiling… this always makes me cough up all the flys I’ve inhaled 🤣 but much better for it. 

3. Deflate the ball to a comfortable level and place it into the area directly below your rib cage. NOSE BREATH LIGHT LONG AND SLOOOOOOW into the back of rib age to access the posterior lung fibres and get the thorax moving again. It also massages out some of the insertion points for your diaphragm. 

4. Is a bit of #balance fun to #stretch out over active #hipflexors that most of us have and not just #cyclists.
I love how this version fires up the hamstrings and #ankles too. Make sure you keep your tail bone tucked under so the lower back doesn’t arch.

    Did you know that 25% of the body's joints are in Did you know that 25% of the body's joints are in the feet and ankles?! This means that what happens in the feet affects the WHOLE body, bet you didn't know knee, hip, and back pain could be caused by issues in the feet?! Yet for some reason we never turn to the feet or ankles to figure out what could be happening in the rest of our body. Immobility in the feet and ankles will have an impact on things such as walking and running because of the way your body is forced to adapt!

We are excited to partner with Darren Kerr from @posturefit_wonkybodies who trained with @garyward_aim as seen on @drchatterjee 'Dr in the House'. This interactive workshop targets the feet to help with postural and mechanical pain in the knees, hips and lower back. We will get hands on and help you understand the full potential of movement, how past injuries have made us adapt, and we will help you understand how to get moving nutritiously, helping the rest of the body fall into alignment with less pain.

We plan on running more workshops for Millstream Pilates clients, so get in touch for information on future events.
